Today was signed at Universidade Católica Portuguesa the largest ever donation to a higher education institution in Portugal with a pledge of 12 million euros from Grupo José de Mello, one of the largest Family business groups in Portugal, for the new building of CATÓLICA-LISBON.

The Rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Prof.ª Doutora Isabel Capeloa Gil says that “ this donation demonstrates the strong alignment between Family José de Mello and UCP in the joint purpose of creating value to the Portuguese society by supporting the growth of CATÓLICA-LISBON, an international business school of world-class quality and scientific reputation”.

The Family and Group José de Mello have always been strategic partners of UCP supporting its academic activities, from scholarships to research. Dr. Vasco Mello, president of the Group says “our support to UCP reinforces its role in educating a new generation of citizens that can better contribute to the development of Portugal”.

UCP will build the new campus Veritati, next to the current Lisbon headquarters, with an academic building to house CATÓLICA-LISBON and a 2nd multifunction building with a large auditorium and innovation spaces. CATÓLICA-LISBON attracts business and economics students from all over the world and has world-class research faculty, maintaining close links with the corporate world and promoting responsible leadership, quality management and societal impact. The new building for CATÓLICA-LISBON will be named “Edificio José de Mello” and will provide modern and high quality facilities for the growth and development of the School. It will also free space in the main campus for the growth of the other UCP Schools, which are national leaders in their respective areas.
